Xpander Cross facelift 2023

Xpander Cross facelift 2023

Mitsubishi has officially unveiled the refreshed Xpander Cross at the 2022 Gaikindo Indonesia International Motor Show. It follows the facelifted Xpander, which was launched in the Philippines earlier this year. The design updates are similar, although the Xpander Cross still does feature unique embellishments that make it sportier and more rugged.

The most obvious change comes at the front, where the Xpander Cross now gets familiar T-shaped headlights in a new interpretation of Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design. At the rear, it gets the same taillight setup as the new Xpander. While this end looks decidedly toned down with fewer black plastics, the rest of the vehicle still features an abundance of black trim.

As with the updated Xpander, the Xpander Cross packs no powertrain changes under the hood. It’s still the same 1.5-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 103 hp at 6,000 RPM and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM. It pairs with a CVT, a contrast to the somewhat archaic four-speed automatic transmission that’s present on the local model.

Interestingly, Mitsubishi fitted the Xpander Cross with active yaw control, a feature that first appeared on the fourth-generation Lancer Evolution. It’s essentially a dynamic stability control system that controls the driving and braking forces between the left and right wheels. It’s currently unclear whether this feature will make it to international versions of the Xpander Cross.

With the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross now in Indonesia, it seems like only a matter of time before the new model arrives in the Philippines. We wouldn’t be surprised if Mitsubishi Philippines decides to bring this vehicle in this year, perhaps as soon as this September at the Philippine International Motor Show. When the new Xpander Cross does land in the country, expect it to carry a price tag of around P1.3 million.

Digging the look of the heavily updated Mitsubishi Xpander which was revealed back in November last year and locally introduced in May this year? Well you might want to check out the updates done to its more rugged sibling, the Xpander Cross.

Revealed by Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia today at the 29th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), the introduction of the updated Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is a follow up to the previous updates for the standard Xpander.

Xpander Cross facelift 2023

Looking at the exterior, the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross receives a similar facelift treatment as that of the regular Xpander. First is the latest iteration of Mitsubishi’s dynamic shield front fascia with a slight revision for the Cross. It also gets a new and beefier front bumper with new rectangular fog lights. Other than that, it also gets the regular Xpander’s split T-shaped LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. On the side, the 2023 Xpander Cross gets new 17-inch alloy wheels and fender flares. Meanwhile, the rear gets the standard Xpander’s new LED taillights as well as a new bumper design. Ground clearance is pegged at 220 mm.

Inside, the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross gets the same new interior of the regular Xpander. What sets it apart though is the steering wheel and 8-inch digital instrument cluster which appear to have been lifted off the Montero Sport, as well as a wireless phone charger. It also gets a light blue interior color scheme as opposed to the brown on the standard Xpander. For infotainment, it gets a 9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the hood, the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross keeps the pre-refresh version’s powertrain. That is a 1.5-liter 4A91 Inline 4-cylinder MIVEC petrol engine that produces 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. Like the Indonesian-spec refreshed Xpander though, this is paired to a CVT. For the Philippines, we will most likely still get the 4-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of safety, the updated Xpander Cross receives new Active Yaw Control (AYC). This is on top of other safety equipment such as anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA), dual front airbags, hill start assist (HSA), and active stability control (ASC). It also gets a 360-degree around-view monitor.

We do not know yet as of this posting when the updated Mitsubishi Xpander Cross will arrive in our market. Given the timing though, we could get the chance to at least get a preview of it at the upcoming Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) next month.
