When can I order 2023 Volvo XC40?

Just got a call from a local dealer in Ohio. They mentioned that they are now able to place orders for 2023 XC40 Recharges and they anticipate that the vehicle would be delivered before June of this year.

Apparently they just found out today, so that’s exciting news. Not sure if I should cancel my deposit on my 2022 arriving in March for a 2023 now…

I would be pretty skeptical of that delivery date - do we know yet what the changes are for MY23? What would you be getting in exchange for the risk of something more like a Nov - Dec delivery?

I agree on both ends. Nothing I’ve read has pointed me towards the idea that there is no major improvements in 2023 other than cosmetic stuff. Dealer also said they won’t know pricing for another month.

and if it’s not June, I’m guessing with the summer shutdown, it wouldn’t arrive until much later in the year. Which by then… what’s the point

Yeah MAG! Good call. And the dealership has been really awesome at answering my questions / test drives. Jordan was my salesman and he’s been great. Although, for the 2022 model I snagged, I had to call all around the state to find any dealership that was getting inventory. Called every dealer in state just about and finally found one near Cleveland the day it showed up on auto trader lol

I think sticking with the original port vehicle order I have is the way to go. I don’t love the leaked design updates in 2023, so really my only incentive for getting a 2023 model is just for it to say 23 vs 22.

I would wait and get the '23. Hopefully, they have some of the bugs fixed by then.

If you prefer the minor design changes of the 2023 then go for it, but if you’re not sold on those go with the one you’re getting.

If the vehicle is listed on the website and at a port, then you can have it sent to any Volvo dealer. I was told no dealers actually carry any inventory anymore and everything is at the ports. I was also told if a customer requested a vehicle from port and then changed their minds, the vehicle had to be sent back to port. The dealer may get to keep a custom order if the person backs out of it....not sure on that one.

Is the port vehicle being sent to MAG?

The XC40 is getting the C40 front end. I think maybe a slight cosmetic change in the back, too. That's pretty much it as far as known changes. Specs are not changing as far as I can tell. No more red paint.

I agree. I prefer the look of the 22 as well. I'm probably biased though.

I just emailed the nearest dealer to me which is Volvo of Tacoma, south of Seattle and the salesman knows nothing about any possible 2023 delivery this summer. He said maybe in fall?

my big question would be related to plasticity and longevity of the computer system. does the 23 model have an updated or faster processor/computer? as updates come over the years, will having a faster processor matter?

Don't know for sure, but I'd guess the 2023 XC40 has the same 5-year-old Intel Atom CPU as our 2021 models do.

I believe the next model where Volvo has publicly commented on new CPUs is the XC90 EV - being introduced sometime in 2022? This basically has a next-gen NVIDIA supercomputer onboard, which will be used at least in part for autonomous driving.

Doubt it. I don't think anything the car does currently is CPU- or GPU-bound. Maybe someday our Play Store apps will have problems efficiently decoding 4K or 8K video - but that's probably not a big issue given our low-res screens and 4G LTE bandwidth

And I don't think there are any plans to enhance the car's "self-driving" features beyond the current simplistic Pilot Assist. That would require massive CPU upgrade.

EDIT: actually, I don't really know what computer runs our current "Pilot Assist" code. Probably not the IHU, now that I think about it.

Looks like you can still build one out on the Volvo website and get an order put in but that surely takes several months.

I've built them on the site, but the final step is to "Get Local Price" where it just sends the request to a dealer. Once the dealer receives the request, they tell me I'm out of luck because they can't submit an order on my behalf. If there's another way to do it, please let me know haha
