What length hair is in for 2023?

You know it's autumn when fashion week previews its spring/summer collections. Ironic.

As for the spring 2023 hair trends that are showcased, too? It's a little easier to get going with them than the sheer dresses and cropped co-ords that will be headlining next season. So, we can get a jumpstart on the hairstyles, cuts and colours that are about to be big.

That's not to say we're not mega excited to give the top autumn haircuts a whirl (looking at you ‘70s layers and curtain cuts – in fact, some of them will be making a repeat appearance), but since knowledge is power, we’ll take a sneak peek at what's coming up next year, too.

What length hair is in for 2023?

Of course, there's some lols, cray-cray lewks in the mix. It wouldn't be fashion week without some bonkers, experimental trends to make us reconsider whether our natural colour and go-to cut is all it's cracked up to be.

Pops of colour will be mood. So far we've seen outgrown bowl cuts in pastel green and purple at Prabal Gurung, major '70s volume in soft pinks and purples at Halpern, dip-dyed bobs at Paul Costelloe, and denim frosted tips at Diesel. We've seen Billie Eilish-style root pops and straight-up neon buzzcuts at Collina Strada.

Buns are everywhere. You know that noughties spiky bun that models like Kendall Jenner, Neelam Gill and Bella Hadid have been wearing for off-duty days? It's been deemed high-fashion enough for the catwalk by Jason Wu and Michael Kors. Fancy. And sleek, low chignons appeared at Roberto Cavalli, Carolina Herrera and Christian Siriano.

Accessories will come in all shapes and styles from the spring-coloured beanies at Fendi's New York show, to the pearl headbands and patterned hair scarves at Paul & Joe. Batsheva gave us giant hair bows and Moschino even gave us inflatable scrunchies – yes, really.

Tommy Hilfiger's bringing back the side-parting which has also seen support from Kim K and Megan Fox in recent months. But then, Kim teamed up with Dolce & Gabbana in Milan on a #CiaoKim collection which saw models fully wedded to the centre part again.

Versace gave us glam grunge hair – think Barbie, meets Avril Lavigne with polished texture in moody, face-covering styles. And we've also seen beautiful natural texture celebrated at Ulla Johnson and Altuzarra where afros, loose waves and hybrid curly-straight textures were free-flowing.

The long, side swept fringe , also known as the side swept will be the “it” hair trend for both 2022 and 2023. Spotted at the Prabal Gurung fall-winter 2022/23 fashion show by stylist Teddy Charles, who orchestrated all the hairstyles backstage, shared variations of this fringe that frames the face from the side. After the hegemony of curtain bangs, the long, cheekbone lengths, grown-out bangs and bottleneck bangs (yes, the imaginative naming of bangs is as extensive as it is wonderful) a fringe hair trend that has always been there is gaining popularity.

Once the staple of the 90s, the side swept fringe will be on mood boards globally, because cutting the bangs is not a trivial thing-it can change a lot the aesthetics of the face - but when we talk about these long versions things change. At Prabal Gurung backstage the universality of this look can be seen, but the experts also predict an onset of its variations.
