Sau phiên bản Medieval: Total War đầy thành công ra mắt vào năm 2002, Creative Assembly đã cho phát hành phần 2 (MTW2) của loạt game, với những cải tiến mà bất cứ các fan gạo cội nào cũng “buộc phải hài lòng”! Game lấy bối cảnh những trận chiến thời Trung cổ ở châu Âu, châu Á và thậm chí còn lan rộng sang cả châu Mỹ. Khi mới bắt đầu trò chơi, bạn sẽ được lựa chọn mức độ ngắn hay dài của phần chơi chiến dịch (Campaign). Lựa chọn này giúp bạn trở nên chủ động hơn trong việc lựa chọn lối chơi thích hợp với từng nhu cầu của mình: nếu bạn chỉ muốn học lịch sử, hãy chọn phần chơi chiến dịch ngắn và game sẽ cống hiến cho bạn những trận đánh nổi tiếng như trận Agincourt của quân Anh chiến thắng quân Pháp năm 1415; hoặc nếu bạn là một fan “gạo cội” của dòng Total War, thì những trận đánh “dài hơi” kéo dài từ 30 phút – hơn 1 tiếng đồng hồ sẽ thỏa mãn nhu cầu của bạn!
