Kamusta (How are you) fellow builders? This is MechaRon giving you a short review on the RG Evangelion Unit-01 DX Transport Platform Set. Aside from being a mouthful kit I will give you a few insights if this kit live out to the hype or is it another Real Grade disappointment. To begin, the kit is based on the mecha anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Which is set fifteen years after a worldwide cataclysm, particularly in the futuristic fortified city of Tokyo-3. It follows our hero Shinji and other characters as he deals with his daddy issues and try to save the world from creatures called Angels with their mechas called Eva. Shinji pilots the Unit 01, the kit that we are going to look at. Now there are already a lot of reviews online about this kit. But what I would like to let you know what I have observed as I build this kit on my livestream. Also I do not aim to encourage you to get a kit but rather I would like you to be excited about what Bandai might have in store for us in the future of Real Grade kits.  The Build Remember this is a Real Grade. It requires a higher level of plamo building skills and attention. There are a lot of small parts so during my stream I ended up having a tiny bowl near where I put those pieces as I remove the nub marks before putting them together. It took me about 4 streams to finish the build so altogether it's about 8-10 hours, Now it may differ to others but for me it took me a while to complete the build and as you read through this blog you will understand why. In building this kit, really pay attention to the instructions. I ended up taking things apart and reassembling them because I wasn't able to attach a certain part to another. If you missed attaching one part to the other it will affect some gimmicks of the kit. The Look The Eva Unit -01 looks great. It really represents the actual mecha from the series with added details to give more character to the kit. The intricate details of this kit is one of the reasons why it took me a while to complete the build. I was constantly admiring each part as I put them together. The colour separation itself is great enough to hold itself as a completed kit. Although stickers are available that will help enhance the details of the kit. I did not end up using any of the stickers. I prefer using water decals but I also plan to custom paint it in the future. The Accessories and Extra stuff This particular kit comes with the DX Transport Platform and the AT field which is about 20 - 30 CAD more than the regular kit. Beyond those 2 extra accessories the RG EVANGELION UNIT - 01 TEST TYPE kit will have the same accessories as the RG EVANGELION UNIT-01 DX TRANSPORT PLATFORM SET. It consists of the following accessories
- Closed Fist - Relaxed Open-Palm - Flexed Open-Palm, Spread fingers - Open-Palm, Fingers together - Weapon Holding, for Knife - Weapon Holding, for Rifle Personally I like the molded hands rather than articulating fingers. They feel more solid and grip whatever weapon, shield or other paraphernalia that any kit needs to hold. The only downside that I can see with molded hands are storage, you need to have a dedicated storage for them. Hands with articulating fingers can’t really hold anything and requires pegged palms to keep the accessories attached. The Articulation I am saving the best for last. I think the best qualities of this RG kit is it’s articulation and the main reason why I took my time building it.. With 3 pivots on the torso, the Eva Unit-01 has a variety of ab crunches and stretches that most gunpla kits are unable to do. Then again this is no gundam this is an Evangelion. Arms have two elbow pivots that allow more bends and shoulder gimmicks have a lot of articulation as well, giving you more options for a dynamic pose. Same goes for the legs aside from the usual pivot points of a kit you have other articulating parts of the legs. Like when you bend the knee all the way, a part of the leg moves and reveals itself. Also in the inner leg there is a piece that reacts like a muscle when you give the kit a leg split. I had to keep reminding myself that this is a model kit and not an action figure. I also get reminded by the kit itself when I am trying to pose it and a piece falls off because I either bend it too much or twist a limb too much. Just check out some of the poses I was able to do. Final Thoughts In full honesty, I enjoyed building and posing this kit. It proves to length that it took me in building it and constantly stopping my build during my stream to admire how great the kit is. This is also the only kit I have ever built where I did two long photo sessions because I really wanted to push the limits of its articulation. The only con that I can think of is that some parts would fall off while doing some dynamic poses but nothing a hobby or super glue can fix. Would I recommend this kit? Definitely! Although in the condition that you do have good skill and patience in building real Grade. This is not an entry level kit this is for the more experienced straight builder because of some intricate parts that need to be put together for the kit to work well. I plan to paint this kit in the future and I invite you to keep an eye on it. Is EvaEVA-01 is an extremely powerful endgame Kaiju that can just about shred everything but a select few. Her wide arsenal of close quarters weaponry, extremely high attack speed and relatively high attack damage helps her annihilate most enemies without breaking a sweat. Is Eva Unit 01 good battle cats?Eva Unit-01 is a very well-rounded Uber overall. Its Strong Ability makes it particularly useful Cats of the Cosmos, Zombie Outbreaks and more. Does EvaThe Eva's are most likely technically female. The evidence points most heavily in that direction, and even if it did not, the souls of those within might be used to ascribe them sex. |
