Toyota Corolla Hybrid 2023 release date

I have been updating Toyota fans about new 2023 model release dates as I get them. Recently I wrote about 2023 Venza and Tacoma and Highlander and when to expect them.

Now, I have news about the new kid on the block.

Corolla Cross Hybrid.

Corolla Cross XSE - Acidic Blast color

Corolla Cross was officially revealed to us earlier this Summer. And there is plenty to be excited about here.
Gas mileage that approaches 40mpg. New trim levels. Great technology, safety, and versatility.

But when will see it?

Early expectations are for a shipment date by the end of this year. Look for the first Toyota dealership arrivals around December time frame. This same timeline goes for the gas-powered Corolla Cross lineup as well.

2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Features

There will be five trim levels to choose from: LE, XLE, S, SE, and XSE. The latter three grades will be sportier than LE and XLE.

All 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid trim levels are offered exclusively with Electronic All-Wheel Drive (AWD).

Other tidbits and specifications of note: 194 horsepower, a 0-60 time of 8.0 seconds, and a combined 37 miles per gallon.

A New Hybrid System

Corolla Cross Hybrid brings with it the benefits of the Fifth Generation Toyota Hybrid System. It will be interesting to get more powertrain and performance statistics and specifications as we get closer to the official launch date.

More 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid Features

Toyota Audio Multimedia will make its way to Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid for 2023.

This new system will be incorporated into the full Toyota model lineup as time goes by. It is already found on 2022 Tundra and 2023 Sequoia. Look for it in 2023 versions of Corolla, RAV4, Highlander, Venza, and more.

My favorite features are crisp graphics, extensive and quick command processing speeds, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the ability to pair two smartphones simultaneously.

Optimal Safety with 2023 Corolla Cross

Plan for standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 in all 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles. Improvements include motorcycle recognition in certain conditions, better lane detection when using lane departure alert and lane tracing assist systems, and intersection support.

The Toyota Corolla Hybrid received a big, exciting update for the 2023 model year. Toyota gifted a nice refresh to the full lineup, but its popular compact hybrid car got the most out of it. The 2023 Toyota Corolla only introduced its hybrid variant a few years ago, but it’s already become a favorite. See what we know about the new Corolla Hybrid.

When does the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid come out?

We’re waiting on official confirmation from Toyota for a specific time. However, we’re estimating that it will be late fall or winter in 2022 or early 2023.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid cost?

Since the Corolla didn’t receive any major changes for the new year (besides the new AWD), we can estimate that the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid will remain about the same as the base model.

Models with all-wheel drive equipped will likely cost around $1,500 more than their FWD counterparts. Here are estimated prices for the new lineup:

  • 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE FWD: $24,050
  • 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE AWD: $25,550
  • 2023 Corolla Hybrid SE FWD: $25,875
  • 2023 Corolla Hybrid SE AWD: $27,375
  • 2023 Corolla Hybrid XLE: $27,825

At this time, we’re not expecting to see a Nightshade Special Edition package on the Corolla Hybrid model.

2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid specs, changes, and updates

The new model year will offer three eco-friendly trim levels—two of which are brand-new: the 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE, Hybrid SE, and Hybrid XSE. The 2022 Corolla Hybrid offered only one grade option.

The biggest change for the 2023 Corolla Hybrid is the addition of Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive. This new system makes the Corolla Hybrid the only compact hybrid car with AWD. A 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and two-motor setup, paired to a CVT, carries over for the 2023 Toyota Corolla FWD and AWD. Additional trim levels (SE and XLE) are another significant change.

What else is different? You’ll see a new front-end design on the 2023 Corolla Hybrid, but nothing major. Toyota gave its smallest hybrid sedan new LED daytime running lights and new LED headlights on select premium grades.

The 2023 Corolla Hybrid lineup also includes improved safety and driver-assistance technology—an important addition for its segment. Advanced safety tech is one of the things that make the Corolla such a great car for new drivers. The newest Corolla Hybrid receives Toyota’s next-gen Safety Sense 3.0 system.

Will there be a 2023 Corolla Plug-In Hybrid model next year?

Electric vehicles are growing in popularity, especially with recent gas prices. Although Toyota was a pioneer of the hybrid car, it’s been falling behind in EV development. Toyota offers only a handful of plug-in or all-electric cars, while other brands are stocking up on EVs. A Corolla plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) would be a welcome addition to the lineup.

However, there’s no word on Corolla PHEV development, so we likely won’t see one in 2023.

At the end of the day, is a hybrid Corolla worth it? With up to 53 mpg in the city, 52 mpg on the highway, and a nice array of standard and available features for around $24,000-$25,000, it may be.
