We normally book with Viator and all of the trips booked with them have been exceptional. After seeing Get Your Guide advertised and having a look at your trips and tours, everything looked very similar to Viator so we booked this trip which was of a historical nature. We always pay extra for a private tour, although it is normally just for 2 of us. On this trip we went with friends so there were 5 of us. Although I was disappointed that lunch and entrance fees weren't included as it just makes things a bit easier, we were informed what was and what wasn't included when booking and on the confirmation. As a matter of fact, the only things stated as 'included' both on the website and my confirmation, were the transport, pick up and drop off, and guide. The night before I received a WhatsApp message from the company to ask what time we wanted to be picked up and if we wanted a guide so they could provide me with a price for the guide. I of course replied to say that the time on our confirmation was 9 a.m. ( I didn't understand why we were being asked you provide a time as it was on the confirmation) and that a guide was included. They said the guide was not included in the price. I promptly replied and although not rude, my messages (which I can forward) were not amused at the fact we were being charged extra for a guide, after booking a tour with a company literally called Get Your Guide! - I forwarded a screenshot of my confirmation which stated there was a guide included but the company were not having any of it and I refused to pay the additional 120-150 Euros quoted by them. After I stated that I would be putting a complaint into Get Your Guide, I received a message to say that they were going to provide what they described as 'an escort'. The escort was a lovely girl and the driver was lovely too. Neither of them could offer us any information, the 'escort' had not been to Knossos or Spinalonga before and took probably as many photos as us tourists. Badly timed with exceptional lines to wait in at Knossos so needless to say, we were running late from the first stop. We watched as tourists with guides were taken around Knossos with information viers and being given a lot of information while we looked at the information plaques, holding basic facts. The driver got lost on the way to the next port of call and had to use his sat-nav, then neither the driver nor 'escort' knew where the port was to get the boat and drove past it to the next resort before phoning their HQ and informing us we were going back to the place we had already been. By this time it was way past lunchtime and although I knew lunch was not included, I couldn't believe that there was no time set aside to eat something. We agreed, as a group to just get a snack and eat lunch late (which ended up being after 4.30 pm). Spinalonga was much worse than Knossos as the guides talked constantly to their guests and the German guide I was looking at was receiving gasps and applause from his guests and we really wished we could understand just some of what he was saying. There was, thankfully some information to read through, but let's be fair - the guides make the day. Because of the poor timing, we couldn't visit Agios Nikolaos so we lost out once again. What we paid for was a taxi to the 3 destinations of which we saw 2. When we got dropped off at our accommodation we were handed one of their flyers, which was advertising taxi transfers to the airport. I could only smile at the fact that a taxi company they truly were. We made the most of it and as mentioned the 'escort' and driver were lovely. However, I will stick with Viator from now on.
