Product: OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 15-ax004na (ENERGY STAR) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) My laptop only charges when the power is shut down The AC Adaptor I am using is the one which came with the laptop when I bought it. When my laptop is on and the adaptor is plugged in, the charger light is white and stays white. The battery charging icon appears for approximately 5 seconds, then disappears and stops charging. Taking the adaptor out and putting it back in has the same effect. When the laptop is shut down and the same adaptor is plugged in, the orange charge light shows. When I start the laptop the charge percentage has been increased. So to me this shows that the adaptor is still functioning. I have already tried going into Device Manager, deleted the 'Microsoft AC Adaptor' and 'Microsoft ACPI - Complaint Control Method Battery', shut down the laptop, taken the adaptor out, held the power button for over 15 seconds and turned that laptop back on. The laptop still doesn't charge. I have also started the laptop and pressed F2, then gone into the power test to see if there is an issue with the battery but the test came back with OK. I have also plugged the adaptor in whilst doing this test and it has managed to stay connected long enough for it to say there are no issues with the adaptor. Any ideas? Tags (2)

While you respond to that, let's try these steps: Hard Reset:Follow steps from the link:https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating) BIOS default:
Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger: Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
AC Adapter Test: The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter. Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.
Battery Test: Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:
If the test passes, continue with these steps: 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result. 2. Expand batteries. 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts. 4. Shut down the computer. 5. Disconnect the charger. 6. Remove the battery. 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute. 8. Insert the battery only. 9. Attempt to turn the battery on. Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance. ECHO_LAKE Was this reply helpful?
