Định nghĩa & Cách dùng

So sánh hơn là cấu trúc dùng để so sánh đặc điểm, tính chất, trạng thái,... giữa 2 người hoặc sự vật trong câu.

Trong một số trường hợp, so sánh hơn dùng để nói về sự thay đổi của 1 người hoặc 1 sự vật của hiện tại so với quá khứ.

So sánh nhất là cấu trúc nhấn mạnh đặc điểm, tính chất khác biệt nhất của một đối tượng, sự vật, sự việc, hiện tượng với các đối tượng khác trong cùng một nhóm (ít nhất là 3 đối tượng).

Ví dụ

She is two years older than me. (Cô ấy hơn tôi 2 tuổi.)

The balloon got bigger and bigger. (Quả bóng ngày càng lớn hơn.)

It was the happiest day of my life.

(Hôm nay là ngày hạnh phúc nhất đời tôi.)

Everest is the highest mountain in the world.

(Đỉnh Everest là ngọn núi cao nhất thế giới. )

Công thức so sánh hơn - nhất với tính từ & trạng từ

Trong phép so sánh bằng tiếng Anh, chúng ta sử dụng 2 dạng từ gồm Tính từ & trạng từ. Cụ thể cấu trúc cho mỗi loại từ được nêu trong bảng sau kèm ví dụ:

(Anh ấy cao hơn tôi.)

Tính từ dài

S + V + more + adj + than + …

My house is more comfortable than here.

(Nhà tôi thoải mái hơn ở đây.)

This is the most comfortable hotel I have ever stayed.

(Đây là khách sạn thoải mái nhất mà tôi từng ở)

Trạng từ ngắn

S + V + adv + er + than + …

They are working harder now.

(Bây giờ chúng tôi đang làm việc chăm chỉ hơn.)

S + V + the + adv + est + …

His ankles hurt badly, but his knees hurt worst.

(Mắt cá chân của anh ấy bị thương nặng, nhưng đầu gối của anh ấy lại đau nhất.)

Trạng từ dài

S + V + more + adv + than + …

She began to speak more quickly.

(Cô ấy đã bắt đầu nói nhanh hơn.)

S + V + the most + adv + est + …

It rains most often at the beginning of the year.

(Trời mưa thường xuyên nhất vào đầu năm.)

Lưu ý:

• Một số tính từ, trạng từ bất quy tắc thì không thêm ‘er/ more’ và ‘est/ most’ trước từ đó để hình thành dạng so sánh.
• Một số tính từ, trạng từ không có dạng so sánh. Chi tiết xem TẠI ĐÂY.

Cách thêm ‘-ER/ MORE’ & ‘-EST/ MOST’ hình thành từ so sánh

Quy tắc chung để hình thành 2 dạng so sánh:

• So sánh hơn: Thêm –er vào tính từ/ trạng từ ngắn & thêm more trước tính từ/ trạng từ dài. VD: lame → lamer; quickly → more quickly.
• So sánh nhất: Thêm –est vào tính từ/ trạng từ ngắn & thêm most trước tính từ/ trạng từ dài. VD: long → longest; often → most often.
• Các trường hợp ngoại lệ với tính từ, trạng từ có đuôi ‘y’ và bất quy tắc được nêu cụ thể trong bài kiến thức tổng hợp về so sánh hơn & so sánh nhất.
