TRAINER CONVICTED FOR FRAUD AGAINST THEN-SINGAPORE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (WDA) TRAINING GRANTS

At a plead guilty hearing on 17 December 2021, Marsh Terranova Tiruchellam, a 54-year-old trainer, was convicted of three charges of falsifying attendance records to defraud then-WDA into believing that he had conducted the courses. Three similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing. Marsh Terranova Tiruchellam is the last of the five individuals to be sentenced for this case involving more than $72,000 in training grants.

Additional $120 Million To Help Taxi And Private Hire Car Drivers Affected By Covid-19 Second Tranche Of Point-To-Point Support Package (PPSP2)

In February 2020, the PPSP was introduced to provide targeted assistance to the Point-to-Point (P2P) sector and its drivers who have been impacted by COVID-19. Since then, the Government has received much feedback from the taxi and Private Hire Car (PHC) industry, which we have carefully considered. In particular, P2P operators have observed a sustained drop in ridership of over ~20%, and drivers have seen significant declines in their earnings. From 1 April 2020, the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and NTUC LearningHub will be coming forward to enable all eligible Singapore Citizens aged 25 years and above to have advance access to their one-off SkillsFuture Credit top-up of $500. The top-up was announced in Budget 2020. This is ahead of SkillsFuture Singapore’s official implementation date of 1 October. The advance access will enable Singapore Citizens to use their SkillsFuture Credit top-up immediately to pick up job-relevant skills to boost their employability in view of the current challenging economic conditions due to COVID-19.

Food Services and Retail Sectors Get Enhanced Training Support Package to Help Mitigate the Impact of COVID-19

Starting from this year, all graduates will receive digital certificates for (i) N, O and A Levels, (ii) ITE qualifications, (iii) diploma and degree qualifications from polytechnics, LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE), Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Autonomous Universities (AUs) and the National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC), as well as (iv) Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ). These digital certificates will be stored in the Skills Passports of their individual MySkillsFuture accounts. When they use these certificates for job applications, employers will be able to quickly and easily verify these digital certificates through OpenCerts (opencerts.io). 500,000 Individuals and 14,000 Enterprises Benefitted From SkillsFuture Programmes in 2019

More Singaporeans and enterprises are tapping on SkillsFuture initiatives, with about 500,000 individuals and 14,000 enterprises benefitting from various programmes in 2019. This is an increase from about 465,000 individuals and 12,000 enterprises in 2018. The working adult training participation rate, according to the Ministry of Manpower Labour Force 2019 report, has also increased to 48.5 percent in 2019, a significant growth from 35 percent in 2015.

35-year-old Yeo Junwei Joel, a freelance training facilitator for Biz HR Solutionz Pte Ltd (Biz HR), was sentenced to 7-weeks imprisonment for abuse of the SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) in 2016. Yeo is the last of the four individuals to be sentenced for this case.

The Committee for Private Education released the results of its Private Education Institution (PEI) Graduate Employment Survey (GES) today. More individuals and companies benefit from training in 2016

SkillsFuture Singapore has issued its first report on the State of the Training Industry. In 2016, a record 418,000 individuals took up 950,000 training places funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). This is an increase from 379,000 individuals in 2015 who took up 835,000 places. This increase is partly driven by the launch of the national SkillsFuture movement. It also corresponds with a rise in Singapore’s overall training participation rate to 42% in 2016, the highest in recent years.

Revision to SkillsFuture Credit Claims Processes

With effect from 19 May 2017, SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will revise the SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) claims processes to reduce the risk of abuse. Under the new process, while individuals will continue to submit SFC claims, all SFC payments by SSG will be made to training providers instead of individuals. Training providers will collect net fees from individuals, after offsetting the SFC that will be used.

More than 126,000 Singaporeans have used the SkillsFuture Credit to up-skill or re-skill themselves by end December 2016, in the first year of this scheme. 34% of them have tapped on their SkillsFuture Credit more than once. The number of training courses eligible for the SkillsFuture Credit has also increased steadily from more than 10,000 in January 2016 to over 18,000 by December 2016.

349 Singaporeans have obtained the SkillsFuture Study Awards in recognition of their efforts and continued commitment to skills mastery. They include individual applicants as well as employees who were nominated by their employers from across 13 areas of specialisation, ranging from air transport to infocomm technology to social service. The highest number of awards were offered to those pursuing skills deepening in financial, built environment and internationalisation as their area of specialisation.

Singapore Celebrates Day of the Seafarer 2016 & Launches Three SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programmes for the Maritime Sector

IE Singapore Extends Overseas Internship Opportunities under Young Talent Programme to Polytechnic Students

International Enterprise (IE) Singapore signed five MOUs today, extending overseas internship opportunities under the Young Talent Programme (YTP) - Market Immersion programme to students of all five polytechnics in Singapore. SkillsFuture Credit

1. To empower Singapore Citizens (SCs) in their learning and skills development, the Government will create a SkillsFuture Credit for all SCs aged 25 and above. SCs can use the SkillsFuture Credit to deepen their skills in existing fields and to broaden their horizon in areas outside their current fields. Every SC aged 25 and above will receive an initial credit of $500. The Government will make further top-ups to their SkillsFuture Credit at regular intervals. These credits will not expire, but can only be used for education and training initiated by individuals, to offset course fees. Subsequent cohorts of SCs will similarly receive an initial credit of $500 in the year that they turn 25.
