A few years ago, I started experiencing acne. I never had it growing up, so the influx of tiny tenants taking up residence on my face were definitely not welcome. I went from being someone with great skin to the person getting annoyed when her best friend said, "I can't remember the last time I had a pimple."

I went through a long process before I finally figured out what worked for me, and for the last year or so I've had my routine down pat. One thing I never really gave much thought to was face wash. Up until a month or so ago I was still using my drugstore foaming cleanser, thinking that it didn't really make a difference. I cared about what went on my face, especially if it was going to sit there for multiple hours at a time, but face wash? I put it on and I rinsed it off. It wasn't staying on my face, so I didn't think it mattered what I used.

Still, even with my carefully curated skin-care routine, I'll notice the occasional break out. Whether it's caused by stress, something I've eaten, or hormones around that time of the month, I've never been able to fully kick my acne to the curb. All of that changed the day I took home a sample of the Murad Clarifying Cleanser ($32) from work. The formula is made with salicylic acid (which dissolves excess oil inside pores) and green tea extract (which calms inflammation). Here's what using it for a month did for my skin.

When I first got my hands on this cleanser, I didn't realize how popular it was. It has more than 1,400 five-star reviews on Sephora, where users have raved about the amazing results. A few commenters mentioned that the product was drying, which initially worried me because I also have dry skin. However, I haven't had a single issue — flakes or otherwise — since I started using it. Instead, my skin has been clearer than it's been in years.

I knew just based off the lightweight texture that I was going to be obsessed with it after just one use. When you rinse it off, it also leaves behind a cooling sensation that makes skin feel fresh, crisp, and, most importantly, clean.

Now, any time I notice a blemish pop up on my face, neck, or chest, I make sure to use this cleanser twice a day, and it clears up whatever breakout has formed, almost overnight.

As for the price, $32 is a definite step up from the typical $6.99 I'm used to spending on face wash. But after seeing this product's amazing results, it's safe to say I'm never giving it up. Whether you're looking for something to help clear breakouts on the reg or something to use for the occasional breakout, this face wash has been a revolutionary addition to my skin-care routine.

What are people's thoughts on Murad products? I've been using the Clarifying Cleanser with Salicylic Acid for awhile and I'm not sure if it's helping or making the bumps on my skin worse. I just looked up the ingredients and it does have a few sensitizing ingredients. I was using it with the CeraVe hydrating cleanser but I don't think my skin likes it.

I have normal but acne-prone skin with a lot of bumps and closed comedones all over. Any help would be appreciated!
