The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse sits atop the new Mustang range and wears the first new performance name for the brand since the Mustang Bullitt was introduced in 2001. It is the most track-capable road-going Mustang ever fitted with a 5.0-liter V8 and essentially fills the void left behind by the sixth-generation Mustang Mach 1. Ford started work on the Mustang Dark Horse some three years ago and has fitted the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 with the connecting rods from the Shelby GT500’s 760 hp engine. The automaker has also installed dual throttle bodies and is ‘projecting’ it to produce 500 hp, although final figures have yet to be confirmed. A unique six-speed Tremec manual transmission is fitted as standard and includes a distinctive transmission oil cooler. Customers can opt for a 10-speed automatic should they choose. The car also rocks brake cooling ducts, an auxiliary engine oil cooler, a rear axle cooler, and a unique radiator that is lighter and features more powerful cooling fans for improved cooling capabilities. The alterations don’t stop there. MagneRide shocks will come fitted as standard to each and every Mustang Dark Horse to roll off the production line. These shocks can monitor wheel and tire movement 1,000 times per second to optimize performance. Complementing these shocks is a larger rear sway bar and 19-inch wheels that are 9.5-inches wide at the front and 10-inches at the rear, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires. Ford has also equipped the car with a strut tower brace and K-brace to improve handling. A set of 13.9-inch six-piston Brembo front brake calipers have also been included in the Dark Horse. Those seeking even more performance will be able to opt for the Handling Package. It adds a unique rear wing with an integrated gurney flap, stiffer springs, larger front and rear sway bars, and unique 19-inch wheels with wider Pirelli Trofeo tires. Lightweight carbon fiber wheels will also be made available. A number of visual alterations further differentiate the Dark Horse from lesser Mustang models. Up front, the headlights have been darkened while a new black grille has been installed. Additionally, the side skirts extend lower and there is also a new rear wing, diffuser, and darkened quad exhaust tips. New badges have also been designed, as has a new color dubbed Blue Ember metallic. The interior also benefits from a number of upgrades. For example, the flat-bottomed steering wheel is now trimmed in suede and finished with bright Indigo Blue accent stitching while models equipped with the 10-speed auto receive anodized silver paddle shifters. Customers who order the Appearance Pack will also receive Deep Indigo Blue seats. Getting it to look more aggressive than the regular 2024 Mustang was obviously a part of the plan, and it was important they had it look a certain way, so it would appeal to gearheads without giving them second thoughts. Ford Mustang Dark Horse Gets Aggressive Styling The Mustang Dark Horse looks ridiculously cool if you have a thing for cars with aero bits on them. One can easily tell the difference between a Mustang GT and a Dark Horse because the details stare you in the face. You know it's a go-faster Mustang the moment you look at it. Up ahead, the nose gets shadow graphic surrounds, specifically around the smoked-out LED headlights - and it merges well with the gloss black grille's trapezoidal nostrils, and the front bumper that's unique to the Mustang Dark Horse, and sports glossy fangs. The Dark Horse has side skirts, a fixed rear wing, a new race-inspired diffuser, and blacked-out quad exhaust tips that scream race car appeal. Look around, and you'll see Mustang Dark Horse badges on the fenders, the trunk, and door sills, while a dark, anodized pony can be seen up-front. There's Dark Horse badging inside the car as well. The color you see in the images is Blue Ember metallic paint: a dark shade of blue that looks even better in the light. The Dark Horse features a broader, flat-bottomed steering wheel that's wrapped in suede and finished with Bright Indigo Blue accent stitching that has anodized silver paddle-shifters on the model ordered with a 10-speed automatic transmission and dedicated drive mode button that lets the driver choose the driving setup they prefer. It sits ahead of a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster with customizable screens, plus multiple drive modes to choose from. The digital instrument cluster is found flowing into a 13.2-inch SYNC 4 center stack that sits behind the glass, angled towards the driver. The screens are designed to meet what's trending out there in the market. The door panels and seats have contrasting blue stitching, and so do the gear shift gaiter and center console. The blue seatbelts give the cabin a sportier appeal. Customers opting for the Dark Horse Appearance Pack get Deep Indigo Blue seats with a nice seat perforation. Ford's Best V8 Engine For The Dark Horse Powering the Mustang Dark Horse is a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine that's been slightly modified, featuring piston connecting rods that were included in the 760hp Ford Performance Mustang Shelby GT500. The Mustang Dark Horse will be the most powerful 'Stang in the stable and will come with a standard 6-speed TREMEC manual transmission. Customers also have the option of treating themselves to the 10-speed automatic gearbox. All the added powertrain improvements were carried out to ensure the Dark Horse performs exceptionally well on the track.
