The Compact Cruiser is likely to be a crossover
The Compact Cruiser takes styling cues from the first-gen Land Cruiser. But it looks very much like it runs on a car platform. And Toyota's description of the target buyer — "young, professional urban dwellers who enjoy active outdoor leisure interests" — screams crossover.
The Compact Cruiser offers all-wheel-drive
It's not too surprising given the off-road aesthetic. But Toyota says the Compact Cruiser appeals to those looking for a "go anywhere, all-wheel-drive experience." So a production version should come with AWD — if it's not standard.
The Compact Cruiser is already award-winning
Expect the Compact Cruiser EV to stay small
Toyota didn't get cute naming its EV concepts. The EV pickup was called the "Pickup EV." So Toyota including "compact" is probably a reference to body size. The Compact Cruiser EV also looks smaller than the Pickup EV, which looks like a midsize truck. Expect the Compact
Cruiser to be more of a Ford Bronco Sport than a Bronco fighter.
Will the Compact Cruiser be called the Land Cruiser?
We'd expect "Cruiser" to be in the production name somewhere. Something like "bZ Cruiser" could work pretty well. However, Toyota trademarked "Trailhunter" last year, so who knows.
The Compact Cruiser may be the FT-4X concept, but electric
When will the Compact Cruiser EV arrive?
Toyota has not yet revealed a launch date for the Compact Cruiser EV, but we expect it to be relatively soon. Toyota
promised to launch 15 new BEVS by 2025; Toyota revealed 15 new EV concepts back in December. So we'd bet the production Compact Cruiser will be on the road by then.

In 2024 Toyota plans to release their newest EV in their lineup, a compact version of their FJ Cruiser. The FJ Cruiser hasn’t been seen, new anyway, stateside since 2014. The car, expected to be released in 2024, has already won awards for design and is set to join the new EV lineup Toyota has been teasing.
Jerry will share everything currently known about the Baby FJ EV and Toyota’s other current EV offerings.
What we know about the Toyota Baby FJ EVs design
2024 is a long way off when it comes to information about cars. While we don’t have much concrete info yet, the design for the Baby FJ created by Toyota ED2 in Nice, France, won the 2022 Car Design Award by the Auto&Design magazine for concept vehicles in Milan.
The Baby FJ is expected to be built for off-roading, with four doors and assumed space for five passengers. Estimates range for how much the EV will cost, with Motortrend guessing $45,000 while Car and Driver hope for a lower starting price of $35,000.
Toyota’s other EVs
Based on Toyota’s other EV like the Bz4X, which ranges from 252 miles to 242 depending on trim, we can assume the FJ will be around something similar, if not better.
The Bz4X also has a charge time of 80% in 30 minutes if you use a public fast charging station. At 240 volt locations, charge time slows down to 23 miles per hour or a full charge in about nine and half hours. With 120 volts, this crawls to four miles per hour and takes 50 hours to get a full charge from a low battery.
The 2023 Bz4X EVsare only available in front-wheel drive, while the Baby FJ EV is expected to be an off-roading SUV.
The rest of Toyota’s current EVs are hybrids, plug-in hybrids, or fuel cell electric vehicles.
