2024 Dodge Charger horsepower

After being revealed this August, the Dodge Charger Daytona concept is making another appearance, this time at the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Visually, the muscle car has changed thanks to a new coat of Stryker Red and 18-inch carbon fiber wheels that look fit for a Drag Pak. However, the real news is that specs have been revealed.

The new Charger is electric, marking a radical departure from the V8s Dodge is known for. However, the marketing team is leaning heavily on the past and has named the setups for this 2024 model after famous Mopar displacements.

Two models will be offered on the 400-volt electrical architecture, plus the SRT Banshee that we know about which is based on the more powerful 800V architecture. On top of this, Dodge will offer Stage 1 and Stage 2 upgrades through the Dodge Direct Connection program, further boosting performance.

Back in 1968, having a “340” meant your Mopar was packing a 340 cubic-inch V8 making 275 horsepower. On the other hand, the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona 340 won’t have a 5.6-liter V8, but will produce 455 hp out of the box. Stage 1 means 495 hp and Stage 2 gives you 535 hp. They’re also calling them “370 and 400” so maybe you can think of these as strokers for EVs.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Charger 440 model will deliver 590 hp out of the box, boosted to 630 and 670 hp, respectively. Nothing beats a Mopar 7.2-liter V8 in the minds of purists, but it’s a good place to start.

Dodge still won’t say how much horsepower the 800V SRT Banshee makes, though it too has Stage 1 and 2 kits. We notice there’s no overlap between 340 and 440 models in terms of horsepower, which means the base Banshee most likely makes more than 670 hp. Our guess is that it starts from around 800 hp. The SEMA concept is a Stage 2 Banshee and its 18-inch carbon wheels are wrapped in 305mm drag tires.

Dodge is doing some interesting stuff here by offering EV tuning straight at the dealer, a bit like how people used to order bigger carbs or track suspension in the 60s. You’ll need a special “DC Crystal Key” that’s coded to your VIN which unlocks the extra power, so even though your buddy might have the same model, you won’t be able to share this key.

My guess is you won’t be able to “tune” a 340 into a 440 unless you swap out the motors. And you certainly won’t be able to do that with a Banshee because the electrical system will be different.
