Having a built-in garage door opener in your vehicle is great! Programming it…not so much. But don’t worry. We’ve got a surefire guide to get you through the process. Before you start, you’ll need to find your garage door’s Learn/Smart button (located on the garage door motor itself) and a step ladder.

Here’s our set of step-by-step written instructions showing you how to program a Hyundai vehicle’s HomeLink universal garage door opener. We’ve also attached the official video guide for more visual learners.

Regardless of whether your garage door uses fixed code or rolling code, the first steps are exactly the same. If you have a rolling code opener or don’t know what kind you of garage door you have, we recommend having a step ladder handy.

  1. Hold garage door remote within 1-3 inches of the HomeLink buttons
  2. Simultaneously press and hold the open/close button on your garage door remote and the HomeLink button you want to program
  3. Hold both buttons until HomeLink indicator light flashes
  4. HomeLink indicator light will either turn solid or flash rapidly

Go to the corresponding section below depending on what the HomeLink indicator light does.

If the HomeLink light turned solid, you have a fixed code garage door. To complete programming:

  1. Press the HomeLink button you’re trying to program twice
  2. Garage door will open or close if programming was successful

If the HomeLink light started to flash, you have a rolling code garage door. To complete programming:

  1. Press the HomeLink button you’re trying to program twice
  2. Exit your Hyundai and press your garage door motor’s Learn/Smart button once
  3. Within 30 seconds, return to your Hyundai and press the HomeLink button you are programming three times
  4. Garage door will open or close if programming was successful
